Brand System
The interconnected set of visual and verbal rules that work together to produce a consistent brand experience across every context.
A brand system is bigger than any single asset. It is the relationship between the logo, the colors, the type, the imagery, and the voice. When those relationships are defined clearly, anyone on the team can create new materials that feel on-brand without checking with the designer every time. Figma's brand system lets their community create assets that feel like Figma. Spotify's lets their marketing team produce campaigns across dozens of markets that all feel like Spotify. The system does the work, not individual supervision. Think of a brand system as a kit of parts with assembly instructions. The parts are the visual and verbal elements. The instructions are the brand guidelines. Together they produce consistency at scale.
